Councils are cracking down on Delivervoo’s pop-up takeaways over fears that it is unlawfully cooking thousands of takeaway meals in satellite units dubbed ”dark kitchens”.
The company has 100 remote kitchens in 16 locations across the country, branded Deliveroo Editions. Deliveroo insists the kitchen do not require the same planning permission as takeaway restaurants, but is already facing planning enquiries across three of its sites.
Councils believe the sites need their own special planning permission, partly because of the volume of traffic they generate.
