Businesses are also urged to fight knife crime

* Knife crime campaigns fear a repeat of the 2011 riots, which costs businesses around £200 million, unless ministers clamp down on violent offenders.

* Police reported record knife offences last year, with blades used in 40 per cent of killings and thousands more assaults and robberies.

* Campaigners demanded an emergency COBRA meeting to implement immediate measures to tackle the crisis.

* Home Office minister Victoria Atkins refused the request, citing Prime Minister Theresa May’s new taskforce, while Home Secretary Sajid Javid has also launched a consultation on a “public health approach” to solving knife crime.
